IAM Networking w. Councilman Kenyatta Johnson — June 21, 2013

On Friday, June 21st, Influencing Action Movement (IAM) & Councilman Kenyatta Johnson came together to host a resourceful networking event for young professionals in the Philadelphia Region. Councilman Kenyatta Johnson connected with guests one on one in an intimate setting at Kings Oak in Northern Liberties. He gave attendees advice on the power of networking and how to build a quality network, what it means to be a leader in Philadelphia and encouraged young professionals to take action in their neighborhoods.

With today’s tough job climate raising the city’s unemployment rate to 10.6 percent, many young professionals are now forced to find alternative routes to success. Some have created their own opportunities by working below their means or becoming entrepreneurs. IAM recognizes the impact that networking and building strong relationships can have for a job seeker. This event aimed to bridge those connections, create opportunities and allow professionals to connect across disciplines.

Because of his dedication to job training and access to employment for his constituents, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson was the ideal host of this career enhancing event. His Spring 2013 Career Fair exposed job seekers to over 50 employers across the city. The overwhelming number of attendees also provided him with an understanding of today’s job market. With this viewpoint, he connected with IAM Networking attendees on many levels.

IAM & Councilman Johnson hosted an event where over 50 professionals learned the most effective ways to network, build significant relationships, and find varying ways to advance their careers. Attendees also learned about ways to give back to their community through IAM’s mentoring programs and partnering community organizations.
